Community Cast Celebrate Reaching Season 6 and Episode 100

Joel McHale, Gillian Jacobs, Danny Pudi, Alison Brie, Ken Jeong and Jim Rash on reaching a milestone.

It’s a great accomplishment for any show to reach 100 episodes, but for Community, it’s especially notable. The show came incredibly close to cancellation for several years, went through a huge upheaval behind the scenes as series creator Dan Harmon was fired (only to then have that undone a year later when Harmon was amazingly brought back) and had some notable cast changes along the way. And then, in May, Community was finally cancelled by NBC… only to be resurrected via Yahoo this summer, with Season 6 set to debut in 2015!

100

The Community cast are filming their 100th episode this week, and I paid a visit to the show’s new sets (they had to move to a different lot thanks to that whole cancellation thing) where the Greendale gang were celebrating this milestone and the victory it represents.

Deadpanned Gillian Jacobs (“Britta”), “This is the thing that should have never happened and many people tried to prevent from happening.”

Said Alison Brie (“Annie), about reaching episode 100, “I’m really shocked. it’s really against all odds and it’s cool. It’s pretty exciting. I think that’s how we felt even coming back for Season 6. Not a lot of shows even make it to six seasons. That is a feat in of itself.”

Yahoo brings back ‘Community’ from the dead for a sixth season

They can cancel ‘Community,’ but they can’t kill it.

After talks about a potential online resurrection on Hulu fell through, the cult TV comedy has been rescued by an unlikely source, Yahoo, multiple outlets reported Monday evening. The show’s future remained in limbo after it was cancelled back in April following its fifth season.

One step away from fulfilling the “six seasons and a movie” rally cry (and ensuing social media movement), the show is signed on to appear on Yahoo Screen. Additionally, creator and showrunner Dan Harmon will be returning, as well stars Joel McHale, Gillian Jacobs, Danny Pudi, Alison Brie, Yvette Nicole Brown, Jim Rash, and Ken Jeong.

“I am very pleased that Community will be returning for its predestined sixth season on Yahoo,” Harmon said in a statement. “I look forward to bringing our beloved NBC sitcom to a larger audience by moving it online. I vow to dominate our new competition. Rest easy, Big Bang Theory. Look out, BangBus!”

After struggling through a Harmon-less season four and a truncated fifth season that ultimately marked its expiration date on NBC, “Community” appeared to have reached the end of its lifespan. With critics starting to cool on the show and ratings failing to improve upon its meager traditional metrics, “Community” was no longer a feasible option for network TV.
